Last week: A friend of mine mentioned her boyfriend wanted to take her to look at rings the other day. My thoughts immediately went to my "Broken Promise" ring. She asked me why I still wear it. She doesn't understand and I don't think she will...ever
Today: I wear several rings on my fingers on a daily basis. Three of these I remove everynight before going to bed. One stays on my finger, it rarely gets removed. This ring I affectionately call my "Broken Promise" ring. Today in the shower I removed this ring only to take a closer look at it and the diamonds. There are 9 little diamonds lined up in a row. The largest one in the center and then the diamonds progressively get smaller as they get further away. Upon inspection the diamonds looked fine; not as shiny as they once were but what do you expect, it hasn't been really cleaned for a long time. Most ring bands start to take on an awkward shape over time. Thankfully this ring band is still a perfect circle. I pull the ring closer and notice all the little nicks and scratches on the white gold band. These of course were not on the band when I first got it, but these represent all the things I have done after I got it; like wrinkles over time. I try to wipe away the wrinkles in my mind to a time when the band was perfect. How long ago this was and how happy I was then. How in love I was....in a flash it was gone. I stare at the wrinkles on the band and wonder will I ever feel that way again. Can I love someone else as much as I loved him, would I want to.
